2022 SRM Research Report - Building Resilience

Summary

Engagement remains a strong performing pillar relative to others, with good levels of support from all three stakeholder constituencies: senior stakeholders, internal procurement colleagues and critical/strategic suppliers. It is evident that executives and senior management are now more engaged and supportive of supplier management as its importance to business continuity and success has become increasingly clear. Internal procurement colleagues and suppliers continue to show good levels of support. The two key challenges for engagement remain to get senior stakeholders to prioritise supplier management, by emphasising its value, and tackling the workload issue within procurement teams. More work is required to engage suppliers effectively and create more open and honest relationships. Only 75% of all companies gather feedback from their critical and strategic suppliers.

of Leaders and Fast Followers’ senior executives are supportive of supplier management programmes. 88% 72% see other business priorities

Senior stakeholder support As previously stated, the executive team has probably never had as much exposure to supplier and supply chain management as they have over the last two years. They are now more engaged and supportive of supplier management as its importance to business continuity has become more evident. 76% of senior executives are said to be supportive of supplier management programmes, split between those actively engaged and supportive (25%) and those supportive (51%). In the case of Leaders and Fast Followers, the overall level of support is 88%. However, it’s not all good news, almost 20% remain neutral, and just over 4% are showing some opposition. Internal procurement colleagues Supplier management is a team effort requiring strong business engagement while still being primarily driven by procurement. Our operational engagement question focuses on internal procurement colleagues and how supportive they are of supplier management. We can anticipate a good level of support, which is borne out by feedback where more than 8 in 10 colleagues support supplier management.
