2016 Global SRM Research - Supplier relationships in tech

SUMMARY

PRIORITY ACTIONS

From our research we can identify priority actions that relate to the six pillars and will, if implemented effectively, significantly enhance SRM capability and results. These include:

→ Develop a clear SRM value proposition that links company strategic objectives to supplier relationships. → Create a stakeholder engagement strategy to ensure that SRM is understood and supported across the business. → Listen to suppliers and engage them more effectively via the broader voice of the supplier approach and more specifically via a 360° relationship assessment. → Develop an operating and governance model that not only establishes the appropriate control environment but also allows for relationship development. → Create an SRM people-development strategy that covers the definition of the SRM role, identifies the key skills and competencies, assesses capability and aligns training solutions. → Invest in the technology that will enable supplier relationship information to be collected, managed and shared efficiently. Technology that will enable enhanced communication, collaboration and consistency. → Treat key relationships as projects. The purpose of the project is to deliver mutual benefits and value to both parties. Energise those relationship development projects with collaborative initiatives to explore improvement and innovation and deliver value that goes beyond contracts.
