An indicator of senior management or executive stakeholder engagement and support is the degree to which they become actively involved in relationships with key suppliers. In many cases, this involvement will include taking on the role of an accountable executive for one or more key supplier relationships. This role is vital in establishing an executive ‘top-to-top’ dialogue and taking control of supplier relationship strategy. In addition, the role of the accountable executive can be a requirement of regulatory compliance in some sectors. Currently, less than half of the companies responding to our survey have an accountable executive in place formore than 50%of their key suppliers. The analysis of responses from the leader, fast follower and follower groups present a different picture, with over 70% of leaders and fast followers reporting that accountable executives are in place for more than 50% of their key suppliers. For followers, the figure is slightly lower at 57%.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

Figure 2.11. The proportion of companies with stakeholder management plans in place for SRM – All respondents

12% DON’T KNOW

36% YES

Considering the importance of stakeholder management, it is surprising to see that a very low proportion of companies have a stakeholder management plan in place to support their SRM programme. Overall, less than three in ten have a plan in place. For leaders, the figure is closer to seven in ten. The relationship between this feedback and the low level of strong and active stakeholder engagement cannot be escaped.
